Manual Testing
Personal study sheet
This is an independent study aid, not an official syllabus, admission assessment or promise of class assignments. Confirm the current teaching scope and practical access with the office.
Your notes remain in this open document; this sheet has no submission or automatic saving. Print after writing to keep a copy.
Set your starting point
Useful foundations: Basic computer use and careful observation are useful. No automation framework is needed to begin discussing test design.
Explore the learning roadmap
01Understand the feature and its risks
Read a requirement and identify the users, data and failure impact. Ask clarifying questions before turning an unclear statement into an apparently precise test case.
02Design scenarios systematically
Use equivalence groups, boundaries and decision tables to choose inputs. Include empty, invalid and unexpected states where they affect the business rule.
03Execute and capture evidence
Record the environment, data and exact steps used. Compare observed results with a stated expectation and preserve only the evidence needed to explain a problem.
04Write useful defect reports
Give a concise summary, reproducible steps, expected and actual behaviour and relevant context. Keep severity and priority separate and avoid assigning a cause without evidence.
05Explore beyond scripted cases
Use focused exploratory sessions to follow a risk or question. Keep notes on what was tried and what remains uncertain rather than claiming complete coverage.
06Plan regression and communicate status
Choose retests around the change and affected workflows. Report unresolved risks, blocked checks and tested scope clearly so a release decision has useful evidence.
Put the ideas into contextManual Testing: a worked study example
Illustrative scenario for discussion and self-study.
A fictional form requirement says a successful enquiry must be stored once. Write cases for valid input, missing consent, a repeated request and a failed notification. Describe the expected outcome and the evidence needed for each, including the difference between a saved lead and a delivered email.
What to check in your work
- Make a defect report reproducible with expected and actual results.
- Distinguish product behaviour from assumptions about the environment.
How this pathway compares
Manual Testing develops investigation and risk-based test design. Automation Testing can repeat selected checks, and Selenium focuses on browser interaction. Clear scenarios remain useful whichever tools are involved.
Check your reasoning
What makes a defect report useful to someone who did not see the failure?
Suggested explanation
State the relevant environment, starting conditions, reproduction steps, expected result and observed result. Include focused evidence without unnecessary personal data. Explain the impact and distinguish a reproducible application problem from an uncertain or environment-specific observation.
Plan the conversation
Ask about the actual syllabus, practical environment and feedback arrangements. Confirm fees, duration, trainer and current batch schedule directly; this sheet supplies none of those details.
