Set your starting point

Useful foundations: Python, linear algebra basics, probability and confidence working with tabular data are useful foundations.

Explore the learning roadmap

Compare problems and approaches

Separate prediction, clustering and representation learning. Match a baseline method and evaluation measure to the actual question before choosing a neural network.

Prepare training data

Review labels, missing records, imbalance and sampling. Keep validation information separate from model-fitting decisions and inspect whether the data represents the intended users.

Understand neural-network concepts

Discuss layers, optimisation, loss and regularisation at a level that supports explaining an experiment. Compare increased model complexity with the available data and compute.

Evaluate useful performance

Inspect errors, calibration and behaviour on important subsets. A single aggregate score should not hide a costly or unfair failure pattern.

Design reproducible experiments

Track data versions, configurations and evaluation results. Change one important factor at a time so an improvement has an understandable cause.

Connect a model to an application

Consider input validation, monitoring, latency and a fallback. Use this guide to ask whether a confirmed programme covers the mathematical foundations and deployment depth you need.

Put the ideas into context

Machine Learning & Deep Learning: a worked study example

Illustrative scenario for discussion and self-study.

For a fictional image-classification task, compare a simple baseline with a more complex model using an unchanged evaluation set. Check whether both saw similar training examples and whether extra complexity improves the errors that matter. A smaller reported error is not useful if it comes from testing on training data.

What to check in your work

How this pathway compares

This guide explores model-development choices. The Data Science course provides a wider data-to-evaluation context; MLOps and LLMOps considers the operational questions that arise after a model is developed.

Check your reasoning

Why compare a complex neural model with a simple baseline?

Suggested explanation

A baseline helps establish whether added model complexity improves the chosen task and metric. Keep the evaluation data separate, inspect errors and consider data requirements and operating cost. A more complex model is not automatically a better explanation or solution.

Plan the conversation

Ask about the actual syllabus, practical environment and feedback arrangements. Confirm fees, duration, trainer and current batch schedule directly; this sheet supplies none of those details.
