C Language with Data Structures
Personal study sheet
This is an independent study aid, not an official syllabus, admission assessment or promise of class assignments. Confirm the current teaching scope and practical access with the office.
Your notes remain in this open document; this sheet has no submission or automatic saving. Print after writing to keep a copy.
Set your starting point
Useful foundations: Basic computer use and an interest in problem solving are enough to discuss a beginner starting point.
Explore the learning roadmap
01Understand compilation and basic types
Trace source code through compilation and execution. Work with expressions, input and output while paying attention to types and the meaning of a compiler warning.
02Control program flow
Use conditions, loops and functions to solve small problems. Check boundary inputs and explain the steps of an algorithm before coding it.
03Work with arrays and strings
Understand indexing, lengths and the storage behind a sequence. Recognise that a C string needs a terminator and that out-of-bounds access is not a safe shortcut.
04Reason about pointers and memory
Connect addresses, pointer values and object lifetimes. Practise allocation and release in controlled examples and inspect mistakes rather than masking a crash.
05Implement core data structures
Compare arrays, linked structures, stacks and queues. Trace insertion, removal and traversal using diagrams and small examples.
06Analyse and test algorithms
Explore searching, sorting and basic complexity. Choose test inputs that reveal empty, single-item and repeated-value cases and explain the resulting behaviour.
Put the ideas into contextC & Data Structures: a worked study example
Illustrative scenario for discussion and self-study.
For a fictional record list, trace insertion, lookup and deletion by hand before coding them. Include an empty list and an item that is not present. Explain which stored values or links change, and check that the operation does not access memory outside the structure's valid bounds.
What to check in your work
- Test empty, single-record and missing-record cases.
- Explain ownership and lifetime for dynamically allocated data.
How this pathway compares
C develops close reasoning about data and memory. C++ adds a different set of language and abstraction tools. Java provides another route to application programming after control flow and data-structure fundamentals are clear.
Check your reasoning
Which boundary cases should you trace before writing a linked-list operation?
Suggested explanation
Include an empty list, one element, a missing value and changes at the first or last element. Draw the links and identify ownership before changing them. After deletion, check that later code does not use a pointer to released storage.
Plan the conversation
Ask about the actual syllabus, practical environment and feedback arrangements. Confirm fees, duration, trainer and current batch schedule directly; this sheet supplies none of those details.
